Health Quality Improvement Project
The District’s Department of Health experienced challenges with shortages in Human Resources and a strained budget to provide healthcare services. The two highest cost drivers were patient transportation and access to medication, both critical factors in rendering an effective healthcare service. The HQI project tabled a set of objectives, interventions and solutions.
The objectives of the HQI project were as follows:
- To improve and enforce compliance with quality healthcare standards
- To render an inclusive and comprehensive healthcare offering within the district
- To increase accessibility to healthcare services at all levels of care
- To meet the patients’ immediate expectations
- To improve Mother and Child health and survival
- To reduce Maternal and Infant mortality rate
The project scope entailed the procurement of 10 Obstetric Ambulances and Medical Equipment for all the health centres in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality and providing EMS personnel training.
The JTGD Trust officially handed over all the medical equipment and 10 obstetric ambulances to the Department of Health o the 7th of December 2012 at Laxey village. The MEC of the Department of Health was present at the event to accept the ambulances.
